Brief introduction into Milan Design Week
For those unfamiliar with Milan Design Week – it’s one of Milan’s main international design events, traditionally held in April. The biggest advantage of the design week is that, unlike Fashion Week, the shows and installations here are open to the public and normally free of charge.
Two main events take place during the design week:
- Salone del Mobile, Milan furniture fair in Rho Fiera, the largest event of its kind with more than 370.000 international visitors coming to see over 2.000 brands showcasing their products. Salone del Mobile starts on the 16th of April.
- Fuorisalone is a set of installations and events, including talks, workshops, exhibitions, and pop-ups in Milan’s best districts. The theme of 2024 Fuorisalone is called Materia Natura, exploring the dynamic between matter and nature, creativity and sustainability.
That’s briefly about it, now, which districts display installations and which events to visit throughout the design week?

Fuorisalone 2024
As mentioned earlier, there are several Milanese districts famous for design week. I have been searching for information on which installations and events to visit and found it quite a challenge to find a clear guide. That said, here is my recap of best shows and installations to visit throughout Milan Design Week 2024.
Brera Design District
Perhaps the most famous of all design districts of Milan. Brera Design District needs no introduction. It is the district to be in, in the heart of design and fashion.
This year, you can expect over 160 events just in Brera! But which of them are worth visiting? Here is the list of the events I am definitely going to this year:
- The Art of Dreams by Porsche – Via Clerici 5
- Flower Up by Emilio Ponzi – Via Statuto 2
- Chiquita House, a long-expected pop art event – Via San Marco 22

Other design districts open their doors to showcase the designs during Milan Design Week. These are the most popular design districts of Milan worth visiting besides Brera:
- Isola Design District
- Tortona Design District
- Cinque Vie Design District
- Montenapoleone Design District
- Porta Venezia Design District
